Akeem Ayanniyi was born in Erin Oshun Nigeria to a Yoruba tribal family of drummers and drum makers who have been making and playing drums for nine Generations. At the age of 5, Akeem began his drumming and drum making career. He has performed all over the world and is the leader of the Nigerian cultural troupe AGALU “Spirit of the drum”. They perform globally and have produced several albums! AGALU is currently based in Santa Fe. The Yoruba tribal rhythms are the original beats and sounds that form the basis of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian percussion.
